Move to combat mosquito breeding

WITH THE HURRICANE season in full swing, the Ministry of Health has stepped up its efforts to combat the breeding of the potentially deadly Aedes aegypti mosquito.
And during a walkthrough of the Wotton, Lodge Road and Water Street areas in Christ Church yesterday, health officials urged Barbadians to carry out inspections of their properties as they fight to eliminate the insect responsible for the spread of chikungunya and dengue fever.
Led by Chief Environmental Officer Tyrone Applewaite, the officials handed out pamphlets warning the residents of the harmful effects of the mosquito.
While Applewaite admitted the Ministry of Health played a vital role in helping to control the spread of the mosquito through fogging and inspections, he said it was extremely important for people to do their own checks.
