Move to make media ‘shape up’

CHRISTIANS ACROSS BARBADOS have been called on to stop buying newspapers for a month and to return all viewing and broadcast equipment in a move to make the media “correct” its moral position.
Reverend Ferdinand Nicholls of the House of Freedom evangelical movement yesterday morning highlighted what he called “the lack of moral responsibility of the media in this country” and called on the church to flex its muscle by hitting the media in its pocket.
“What do you think would happen in this country if for one month every Christian refuses to buy a single media print that is on the streets? . . . I put it to you that there would be a serious impact upon the financial component of those particular media houses,” he said during yesterday morning’s broadcast of his weekly programme on Christ Is The Answer (CITA) Radio 90.1 FM.
“Imagine telling our media in this country, regardless of how it’s represented, electronic or print, we’re going to send everything back to you . . . equipment and viewing material and stop buying newspapers for a month. There would be a serious reassessment of the media’s position in this country,” he declared.
