After seven years, definitive steps have been taken to re-establish a single building to house the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN).
Chief executive officer of the OCM Network Vic Fernandes and executive vice-president (operations) of Creative Designs Douglas Lillie, signed an agreement yesterday to refurbish and retrofit the existing building, heavily damaged during Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
“Currently almost all of the workers of GBN are operating out of rented facilities, however the television studio still remains as that part of the building was not damaged,” Fernandes said.
“The work will see a complete refurbishment of the radio stations – classic radio; HOTT FM and the Caribbean superstation – and we will also be putting up some new facilities which will incorporate a lobby, reception area, library, technical room, news room and so on,” he said.
Fernandes said the more than EC$5 million (BDS$3.7 million) facility was scheduled to begin in Grenada today and to be completed within the first quarter of 2012, ideally in January.
Lillie said the work would be live as it would be going on while the studio was still in operation.
He said he was looking forward to building what would be a showpiece for Grenada.
