New wheels for amputee

The New Castle, St John community should be seeing much more of double-amputee Reuben Cooke these days.
That’s because the 56-year-old has a new set of wheels – a motorised scooter – and no longer has to wait for someone to help him get around.
The scooter was purchased by the St John Community Help Group, and formally handed over yesterday by Corie Mapp, a Barbadian soldier who lost both legs while serving with the British army in Afghanistan.
The presentation took place in New Castle, outside R & B Mini Mart.
“This motorised scooter will help Reuben become more independent, to come out of the house more often and to move around in the community,” relative and president of the Group, Anthony Cooke, told the DAILY NATION.
The recipient, who reportedly lost his legs to diabetes, said he was grateful for the assistance in “getting up and down the hill” and moving around in the community. (TY)
