After two weeks of intense competition, the National Cultural Foundation has announced its finalists for the LIME NIFCA 2012 Performing Arts Finals, starting today at 7 p.m. with dance and ending Monday with music at the Frank Collymore Hall.
Twenty dance pieces will be presented by 15 groups, three duets and two solos in the non-professional category. Among them are Dancin’ Africa with four pieces, and Louise Woodvine Dance Academy and Pinelands Creative Workshop, two each. In addition, there is expected to be an impressive cha-cha routine by Mark Burgess and Kathyann Patrick.
In music, 33 acts in the form of choirs, orchestras and individuals will present 48 musical pieces. Of the 43 original pieces entered in NIFCA this year, 13 have advanced to the finals.
These are made up of two steel bands, two choirs and six individuals, including two professionals, and a professional group offering two instrumental compositions.
Among the singers will be Chantal Jemmott, who placed fourth in the just concluded 2102 Richard Stoute Teen Talent contest, bringing her stunning rendition of One Night Only from the Dreamgirls movie soundtrack. And Chrystal Cummins-Beckles will be doing Mercy Said No and the original number Get On Yuh Knees And Pray.
Twenty entrants, including groups and individuals, will compete in the non-professional category of drama/speech. There is one professional entry.
The prolific Adrian Green is back with Hard Work; Yardie Boys Theatre will be doing Demons In Me; St George Primary contributes a Tribute To Jeannette Layne-Clarke; and Praise Academy will thrill with David The Courageous.
The LIME NIFCA Performing Arts Finals will climax with the Gala on Sunday, November 18, at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex at 6 p.m. (NS/PR)
