CAPTAIN SAWYER IS HURT but remains unapologetic for his mildly popular calypso De Sugar Daddy that has offended a women’s activist and a politician.
“Miss, I never meant for this song to be offensive to nobody. This has me drain every day . . . . I am not apologising for my song. I am not taking back any lyrics. I am a calypsonian,” he told the DAILY NATION.
The singer known for his light-hearted take on social issues and sub-cultures is among the early controversies associated with the annual Crop Over Festival. One women’s organisation has called for Sawyer to be blacklisted from any state-funded events over De Sugar Daddy, an account of a quid pro quo relationship between men and women.
