No devil work in lodge

Masonic lodges are not evil and do not engage in devil worship.

Chief ranger Cameron Coombs from the court of Western Star sought to “erase” that popular perception yesterday, during its 166th anniversary service at the St Leonard’s Anglican Church.

“Let me say that no atheist can become a member of our society. And furthermore, that our teachings are derived from and based on The Bible. We therefore share with you, a common Christian faith rooted in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man,” Coombs explained.

The Order of Foresters and Friendly Societies, from which Western Star is derived, was started around 1790 in England and came to Barbados in 1846, making the local arm one of the oldest in the world. There are three subordinate courts in Barbados.

Slightly confused…“lodges are not evil and do not engage in devil worship”...“no atheist can become a member”. The chief ranger means to imply that atheists are devil worshippers? Or that there is no devil worship going on in the lodge; only christian derived teachings, therefore someone who doesn’t believe in god cannot join; because atheism ≠ satanism. Atheism is the non belief in god(s) and by extension devil(s)

I am aware that lodges do a lot of charitable work
(mostly behind the scenes) in many communities,
and I admire them for it, but my question is….
Why is so much SECRETCY involved in joining a lodge and remaining a member of a lodge?  I think all the mystery behind the lodges is the reason why people are afraid of them and think the worse of them.
And why is there a selection process?
The Kingdom of Heaven, (The Christian Church) and/or (Christianity) is open to everyone and anyone who will believe and accept.
In other words, whosoever will may come!
