No, Mia!

No, Mia! Opposition Leader Owen Arthur and Mia Mottley. (FP)

By Tim Slinger | Tue, January 31, 2012 - 12:12 AM

NO PRIVATE MEETING! That was the assertion yesterday from Opposition Leader Owen Arthur to Mia Mottley’s request for a one-on-one meeting with him to discuss the Rawle Eastmond nomination issue and other matters.

Arthur said the request was first made to him by text about a week ago and he had responded promptly, turning down the offer while making it clear to Mottley that “we should allow the [party] process to work itself out”.

He therefore described her public request via this newspaper yesterday for a “private audience” with him as the “ultimate discourtesy”, adding that such a meeting could only now be held in Independence Square.

Ahead of Sunday’s nomination in the St James North constituency, the Opposition Leader also insisted that neither he nor Mottley could determine who should represent the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) there.

Unbelievable, if this story if true then how can O.A. treat Ms. Mottley with such disrespect?

Owen Arthur obviously has no respect for Mia Mottley and has clearly demonstrated this on many occasions. Some people feel that this disrespect extends to women in general. However, several women have promised to remember this disrespect at election time. Nigel D.

My dear Mia, what point are you trying to prove this time. why after texting the gentleman and receiving a response would you tell the nation that you are seeking to have a one on one when you knew the offer was already declined. I also recall you speaking to Owen at the Cheltenham’s funeral so you had an opportunity to make your request then.
Mr. Arthur I know that Mia has been losing tremendous favor with you and the party supporters. Actually some of her diehard supporters have distance themselves from her. Even some of her former cabinet members have now distance themselves from her. However, no matter how angry you are Mr. Arthur I am not sure that it was worth it to use the same medium to respond to Mia. please do not let this issue take the attention away from the ever important NIS saga. We need to know if NIS money is going towards the hotel or the Condos, if the latter then this is worst than I thought, as we know that condos have no real long term benefits for Barbados/Barbadians. We need to know these things Owen and we are not getting answers from our Government, so forget Mia and shed some more light on our NIS.
