NO PRIVATE MEETING! That was the assertion yesterday from Opposition Leader Owen Arthur to Mia Mottley’s request for a one-on-one meeting with him to discuss the Rawle Eastmond nomination issue and other matters.
Arthur said the request was first made to him by text about a week ago and he had responded promptly, turning down the offer while making it clear to Mottley that “we should allow the [party] process to work itself out”.
He therefore described her public request via this newspaper yesterday for a “private audience” with him as the “ultimate discourtesy”, adding that such a meeting could only now be held in Independence Square.
Ahead of Sunday’s nomination in the St James North constituency, the Opposition Leader also insisted that neither he nor Mottley could determine who should represent the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) there.
