No solidarity

THE JOBS OF 3 000 temporary workers might have been saved if there was support from their appointed public sector colleagues.
In addition, general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers’ (NUPW), Dennis Clarke, has accused the Freundel Stuart Administration of not seriously considering the union’s proposals for raising additional revenue rather than sending home the workers.
Clarke, in an interview with the WEEKEND NATION, said efforts to get the union’s membership to show support for their now severed colleagues fell on deaf ears.
“Those workers who have a job and are appointed are not prepared to go out there and show some sort of opposition to what is happening. A lot of them said they had mortgages and other bills to pay and that has been the position of a lot of members that we asked about taking some form of action,” he explained.
