Not of God

TOO?MANY?HOMOSEXUALS are hiding in the church, Government and in the medical and education professions, among others in Barbados, says outspoken baptist minister Reverend Vincent Wood.
He said these people by their very profession have the ability to influence if not by word, by deed impressionable people, especially the young, (and they) can be led astray by these professionals.
Wood, who is vice president (Caribbean) of the 36 million Baptist World Alliance, was addressing his congregation at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, President Kennedy Drive, St Michael, yesterday.
Wood said that many who are prepared to move ahead quickly from point A to point B are willing to be used by these individuals all for the sake of promotion and advancement.
Speaking specifically on a lead story in the last Saturday’s NATION in which Darcy Dear, president of the United Gays and Lesbians Against AIDS Barbados, disclosed that there was a youth arm so that young people could fight for themselves for the future.
“What is shameful and hurtful is that seasoned and grown men and women have organised a haven of corruption . . . of unwholly, unGodly lifestyles. The president shouldn’t feel proud or pat himself on the back for any achievement, but hang his head in further shame,” Wood stated.
The presenter of the Sunday night radio programme Power For Living said his initial reaction to the article was “how absurd”.
“We are living in a sinful world with sinful people. For sure homosexuality is against the will and plan and purpose of God but such must be expected . . . On the one hand we as Christians are encouraging young people to live clean, moral, respectful lives, while on the other hand sinful morally corrupt people who do not respect God has built a platform. . . They (youth arm) are being drawn into a community that is organised for them,” Wood said.
The preacher said he agreed with Dear that there will always be gays among us. He based that on the parable in the Gospel of Matthew 13 in which after the good seeds were sown the enemy planted weeds among them. The master allowed the plants to grow together but in the end they were separated.
The lifestyle, though not uncommon, was unnatural, Wood pointed out, adding that God had given up on every homosexual who rejected His way of life for dirty living. He cited Romans 1:24 to support that conclusion.
That passage read: “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves.” (AC)
