THE NATIONAL Union of Public Workers says it’s dissatisfied over the treatment of staff of the Ministry of Tourism in the transition arrangements leading to the creation of the Barbados Tourism Product Authority (BTPA).
A statement released yesterday said the NUPW found it disturbing that employees of the Barbados Tourism Authority – an organisation being split into the BTPA and the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) – were “given preference in being invited to apply for any of the three top posts of their choice in the BPTA”.
According to the union, staff of the ministry who attended an internal meeting this week were told that they would be seconded to comparable salary posts within the BPTA for a two-year period.
“Unlike their counterparts at the BTA, however, the staff at the ministry were restricted to applying for posts in the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), having been told that the applications for posts in the BTPA were put on hold,” the union charged.
