ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Jun 18 – The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is Tuesday celebrating its 32nd anniversary with Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer predicting in the years ahead “we will be achieving new milestones”.
The OECS groups the islands of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts-Nevis, Montserrat, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands.
In a message marking the occasion, Spencer, who is also the OECS Chairman, said that since its formation, the OECS has strengthened areas of function cooperation.
He described the formation of the OECS Economic Union as a “significant and ambitious” venture since the dawn of the 21st century and builds on the solid foundation set by the founding fathers of the sub-regional grouping.
He said the union was carefully design to help the region “adapt to new and ever changing global realities.
“As the corner stone of stability and sustainability for this grouping of small states the OECS Economic Union speaks eloquently to the progress and dynamism of the regional integration process as well as to the vision that drives it”.
