Oil mess

Barbados now faces a major environmental risk that has been eight years in the making.
SUNDAY SUN investigations have revealed that the former refinery site of the Mobile Oil Company at Gravesend, St Michael, is still contaminated by crude oil, and the situation is getting worse by the day.
If left unattended, the contamination could eventually reach the area’s ground water supply, a Government official has confirmed.
A $64-million contract for the site’s clean-up remains in the hands of Government unsigned, but with a Canadian company waiting for almost four years to complete the job.
Read the full story in today's SUNDAY SUN.

I have one question ...so they borrow from the NIS after cutting pensions, to resurrect a crappy bad idea of a project after scaring away necessary investors, they increase road tax to double what it used to be and don’t fix the roads, they increase professional fees to triple what they were before with salaries remaining the same, they take a huge delegation to an unnecessary conference with the tax payers footing the bill of thousands of dollars and when the public complains about stuff they sing the ever famous song hard economic times or the more popular the world is in recession and now they have a 64 million dollar contract unsigned to be given to a company to deal with a problem that if left untreated will be hazardous to us all and they just sit on it for four years what they didn’t think that the people would find out WTH…If they didn’t want to give it to a Canadian company why did they not try to find another company to deal with it? Or are they going to wait until the problem spirals out of hand like the issue with the gentleman and the construction of the government offices or the Alexandra issue? Why can’t problems be dealt with early why do they always have to wait until issues are borderline uncontrollable to then try to ressolve them? How many more contracts and deals have been gone unsigned and sat on because friends could not be found to be awarded these contracts? hmmmmm I wonder butI am just asking questions i am in no way singling out any person are making any accusations i am simply thinking aloud
