The 14th Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands will be enthroned on May 17 in the Cathedral of St Jago de la Vega, Spanish Town, Jamaica.
He is the Right Reverend Dr?Howard Ainsworth Gregory who was elected at a special Synod at St?Luke’s Church Hall, Cross Roads, on March 28. He received the two thirds majority of the votes cast by both the clergy and lay representatives attending, on the second ballot.
The 61-year-old bishop succeeds the Right Reverend Alfred C. Reid, who retired last December 21 after serving as Bishop of Jamaica for 11 years.
He has been serving as canonical administrator for the diocese since January and his election marks the high point of his 38-year career in the priesthood.
Gregory holds a Master’s in sacred theology from the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia; the doctorate in sacred theology from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia; and a Master’s in business administration from the Graduate Theological Foundation in South Bend, Indiana.
The bishop is no stranger to Barbados since he visits often.
He is a member of the Codrington College Trust.
