Barbados will host the semi-finals and final of the 2013 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Super50 Competition.
In a change of format from previous years, the 50-overs and the four-day competition will be played simultaneously.
The Super50 will start on February 7, two weeks after the completion of the Caribbean Twenty20 which will be played in St Lucia and Trinidad from January 6 to 20.
In announcing the itinerary for the regional four-day and Super50 competitions, the WICB said the busy season would include 48 matches for the two tournaments.
Each team will play each other in both competitions, leading to semi-finals and final.
Kensington Oval will stage the Super50 semi-finals on April 18 and 19, ahead of the final on April 21.
The venues for the semi-finals and final of the four-day competition will be determined after the preliminary matches.
The higher-placed teams will host the semi-finals – as will be the case for the final.
In the opening round of matches, Barbados will host Jamaica in a Super50 match at Kensington Oval on February 7 before engaging the same opponents at the same venue in the four-day fixture starting two days later.
Jamaica are defending both titles.
The teams will be battling for the Clive Lloyd Trophy in the Super50 and the Headley/Weekes Trophy in the four-day competition.
During a Press conference in late October, WICB cricket operations manager Roland Holder said the change in formats presented several benefits.
Holder, a former Barbados captain and West Indies batsman, said the WICB was fulfilling its mandate to provide players with more cricket.
“We have returned to what happened in the past. In the last two or three seasons, by virtue of us playing the Super50 in October/November, we had several matches rained out,” he said.
“By moving it out of the hurricane season and into the traditional cricket season, we have increased the number of matches and each team will now play a minimum of six matches . . ..” (HG)
