Pacers bring home three Hampton golds

CARIFTA athletes Levi Cadogan, Dario Grandison and Kentone Browne all gained gold medals for Pacers Track Club at the 38th edition of the Hampton International Games at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago last weekend.
Cadogan won the Under-20 Boys’ 200 metres in 21.18 seconds from St Vincent’s Reuberth Boyde (21.37) and Micah Ballantyne (21.46), while Grandison triumphed in the Under-20 Boys’ 1 500 metres in 4:18 minutes.
Browne took the Under-18 Boys’ 100 metres in 11.03 seconds from Vincentians Corey Stewart (11.09) and McKesh Compton (11.11).
The Men’s Invitational 200 metres was won by American Ahmad Jamil Hubbard in 20.68 seconds from Trinidadians Kyle Greaux (20.71) and Jonathan Farinha (20.72).
In the Women’s Invitational 200 metres, Independent sprinter Jade Bailey finished third in 23.84 seconds, behind Reyare Thomas (23.43) and Cuba’s Arialis Gandulla (23.71).
Akeem McCollin won a silver medal in the Under-20 Boys’ 400 metres, clocking 48.60 seconds, while Akeim David (55.66) gained a bronze in the Men’s Invitational 400 metres hurdles, which was won by Cuba’s Leandro Zamora in 52.41 seconds. Jamal James of the Trinidadian club, Rebirth got the silver in 54.06 seconds.
Crystal Maloney also earned a bronze in the Under-18 Girls’ 800 metres in 2:32 minutes.  
Pacers also gained silver medals in both the Under-20 Boys’ and Under-17 Boys’ 4×100-metres relays.
Pacers’ coach Anthony Williams said he was pleased with the overall performance and decorum exhibited by the 21 athletes who made the trip to the twin-island republic under the leadership of co-captains Sabrina Newton and David.
Authorised health and safety trainer Juliette Newton, who assisted the team with sponsorships, thanked the BHL for the provision of natural juices to fortify the athletes during competition.
She also thanked members of the medical and local business community for their investment with the athletes. (EZS)
