Padmore’s fifth straight title

TOP SEED Andre Padmore captured the men’s singles title for the fifth successive year while Shari Watson was dethroned when the National Badminton Championship 2012 climaxed at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Saturday night.
   Recapturing the women’s title would have given Watson three crowns as she clinched the mixed and women’s doubles. However, Watson’s doubles partner, Mariama Eastmond, in pursuing glory of her own, took the final 16-21, 21-15, 21-11.
   Watson and Eastmond experienced different trips to the finals. Watson easily brushed aside Mikeila Carrington 21-9, 21-16, while Eastmond had to thwart another giant-killing bid by Tamisha Williams, 19-21, 21-13, 21-17. 
   Williams had stunned the No. 2 seed Sabrina Scott in the quarterfinals.
