The Ministry of Education is looking into the apparent impasse between principal of Parkinson Memorial Secondary School, Jeff Broomes, and staff.
Noting that the ministry would have to act “expeditiously” to deal with the developing row, Minister of Education Ronald Jones told the DAILY NATION that ministry officials were going to meet internally yesterday to try to resolve any issues that might be existing or potential ones arising at The Pine, St Michael school.
“We really don’t want to have disruption at the commencement of our school term. And therefore whatever those issues are that are impacting on the environment, we will have to act,” Jones said.
The teachers’ representative, the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), has already intervened and a letter outlining close to ten grievances was sent to the ministry last Friday.
Chief Education Officer Laurie King has given verbal acknowledgment of receipt, which was followed by written correspondence from Permanent Secretary Cecille Humphrey stating that the letter had been received.
Union head Pedro Shepherd has already made the intentions of BUT clear if things are not resolved by the start of the new term.
