All eyes?were on the Combermere Under-20 Boys’ relay team following an intake of athletes from several schools, but yesterday during the Ninth Barbados Relay Fair at the National Stadium, it was the home-grown talent led by Romarco “Remarkable” Thompson that shone in the Under-17 division.
Combermere were locked in a ding-dong battle with The Lodge School all day in that division as they vied for supremacy.
In the sprint medley, Thompson (right) anchored the team to victory after receiving a crisp baton pass from Sachin Clarke.
However, they had to settle for second place in the 4×100 and 4×400 metre relays, won in record times by Lodge.
At the end of it all, Combermere won the boys’ title and Springer?Memorial captured the girls’ crown, with West Terrace, Wilkie Cumberbatch and Luther Thorne among the outstanding primary schools.
