Government is trying to find “a humane solution” to the situation confronting hundreds of retirees who served on statutory boards and have been advised they will be getting one pension instead of two.

He said a man had spoken to him about the matter at a funeral last Saturday.
“Both he and his wife were getting two pensions,” Stuart told the gathering. “They just got a letter saying it was a mistake and that he is going to lose $1 600 and his wife will lose $1 000.
“We have talked about this at Cabinet and we have to find a humane way out of all of this, but the truth is the law requires if you came into the Public Service after September 1, 1975, on a statutory board you should only get one pension.”
