The war on the deadly Aedes aegypti mosquito is heading to court.
Health authorities expect to prosecute a number of people and businesses over mosquito breeding in the coming weeks as the country fights a double affliction of dengue fever and chikungunya which are spread by Aedes aegypti.
Ministry of Health sources told the DAILY NATION that those at the centre of the cases had been warned in the past about maintaining their premises because of the discovery of mosquito larvae.
However, the warnings were ignored as several follow-up inspections by environmental health officers revealed that breeding conditions remained.
The alleged offenders are mainly from St Michael, areas of which have been a consistent part of the ministry’s fogging programme, even in the dry season.
