Petition to strip Tridents

One Guyana Amazon Warriors fan has gone a step farther than just voicing his disappointment with the conclusion of this year’s Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 Cricket Tournament.
Clayon Halley of Georgetown Guyana has started a petition at Change.org demanding that organisers “strip Barbados” and conduct an investigation.
The Barbados Tridents were awarded the game after rain interrupted play, beating the Amazon Warriors by eight runs on the Duckworth/Lewis Method. The Amazon Warriors needed 46 runs off 25 balls when the rain came.
“Spectators both at home and at the ground, knew that something suspicious transpired after the prolonged rain break and then the announcement of Barbados being the CPL 2014 Champions. This suspicion coupled with the action taken by the Guyana Amazon Warriors management team prompts me as a supporter to let my voice be heard in support of the #Warriors,” Halley wrote.
“I hereby make a demand of the CPL to conduct an investigation into the activities leading up to the final results and make the findings known to the public. During this process the title should be taken away from Barbados. If there are any discrepancies in the findings then the match should be replayed.”
Halley said he would also like to see the Duckworth/Lewis method being withdrawn from the CPL finals. He added, fans had paid to see a full game “and we deserve nothing short of a full game, systems should be put in place in the event of rain interruption to postpone until a later date”.
Up to the time of writing, the petition had 1 793 signatures and needed 707 more. Signatures have been received from fans in Guyana, Jamaica, New Jersey and Suriname.
People also voiced their reasons for joining.
Some said it was “an unfair decision”, which robbed the Warriors “of having a fair chance of the title for our country and for the fans”. Another did it out of “love of cricket, sportsmanship, integrity and respect for the Caribbean”.
Management of the Guyana Amazon Warriors has also written organisers, protesting the way several issues were handled during the final. (SAT)
