Pilot pays up
Fri, January 27, 2012 - 12:05 AM
LIAT pilot and admitted drug trafficker Keith Richard Otway Allen escaped a long prison term and should be back home in St Vincent and the Grenadines today after paying fines totalling $1/4 million yesterday.
The fines were about twice the value of the 65 pounds of cannabis which Allen was arrested for smuggling into Barbados on November 23.
The sentence, handed down by Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell in the District “F” Magistrates’ Court, brought an end to a matter that featured two Methodist preachers appearing as character witnesses for the pilot, and several adjournments after Allen’s guilty plea.
Through his attorney Sir Richard Cheltenham, Allen (pictured here leaving the court) paid the fines as is evidenced by the receipt from the court.

Hhhhhmmm!!!! This man should have been fined and confined. How many people’s children must have been hurt by his action and who knows how many times before he got by with his weed. A decent job, a greedy $5000.00 pay off, the right attorney and some clergymen -what a mix.
How much weaker can our Courts be???????? .

Comment LinkThe other one in the BIG House in Redmans Village, he got away too. It only shows the right lawyer and as someone said some clergymen putting on pious faces and myths, one can get off with a slap on the wrists. Just like the clergyman who raped the 13 year old girl.

Comment LinkThose two clergymen who acted as character’ witnesses’ must be feeling SHAME, SHAME, SHAME, after Keith Allen pleaded guilty! That certainly was a slap in the face!
But HOW did he expect to smuggle 65 pounds worth of cannabis? Maybe, if he had smuggled it in smaller batches he wouldn’t have gotten caught!
I whole-heartedly agree with the person who stated…
“If this was some yahoo on the block he would be languishing up at Dodds”.
Tis, tis, tis… things never change in Barbados.
