THE MECCA OF CRICKET could soon become Barbados’ sporting capital.
?Basketball, volleyball and every other indoor sport may very well join cricket at Fontabelle as Kensington Oval Management Inc. (KOMI) is currently looking at plans to convert its bonded warehouse into a multipurpose facility.
KOMI chief executive officer Ben Toppin made mention of the sporting initiative earlier this week while addressing the press launch of the Ballout Coast2Coast basketball camp.
“With the bond, although the space would be limited 8 000 square feet, if we do the right flooring then we will be able to accommodate basketball, volleyball, indoor football, road tennis by temporary marking and we can still have entertainment,” said Toppin of the big building next to H Jason Jones & Company Limited.
“In my planning and thinking we are a year behind and it is all a question of capital, but you know whoever wants to use it for whatever purpose then they can use it and ideally a proper wooden floor will allow us to do any indoor sport in there and then we just have to arrange the seating to suit.”
