PM: Smooth follow-up

PM: Smooth follow-up Prime Minister Freundel Stuart. (FP)

Sat, November 03, 2012 - 12:07 AM

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart expects the follow-up processes to the recommendations in the commissioner’s report on The Alexandra School to be “smooth” and “seamless”.

Stuart’s promised statement on the Frederick Waterman report was issued last Thursday night via the Government Information Service.

The Prime Minister said the welfare of the Alexandra students was the “first” and “paramount” consideration.

Even though Stuart had a copy of the report since September 21, when Waterman presented it to Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave, his comments came several days after recommendations alleged to be in the report were leaked to the Press. (YB)

A "smooth" and "seamless" follow-up. How about a SPEEDY and TIMELY follow-up?

PM Stuart chooses his words very carefully - with deliberate ambiguity. When he says a "statement" is forthcoming, don't expect a decision. When he tells you the process will be "smooth" and "seamless," rest assured this matter may not be handled with a sense of urgency.

PM Stuart deals with important matters at a time and place of his own choosing - sometimes not at all. When he said there will be "consequences" for the apparent rebellion of the Eager 11, he basically meant some Ministers could be denied acting as PM in his absence.

One thing seems certain given our experiences with Stuart using the last possible day to announce the date of the St John bi-election, and now issuing the statement on Alexandra School on the very last day of the week he promised, it is highly likely he could do the same with the upcoming General Elections.

So brace yourself for the long-haul, folks!
