TOUGH LOVE! That’s what this country’s Royal Barbados Police Force will be employing in the New Orleans and Chapman Lane areas, as it continues to deal with snippets of violent behaviour in the two troubled St Michael communities.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Erwin Boyce made this clear yesterday, after an hour-long walk through the two areas with a number of high-ranking officers and the constables who are now on 12-hour shifts at the specially placed mobile unit that was established last November.
Admitting there had still been some acts of bad behaviour since the mobile unit had been established after a tour by Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin, the second-in-command said the Force would be “forceful, but fair,” as it continued to assist law-abiding citizens.
“It’s a work in progress. We will continue to participate in community audits in the area, but we also want to see community leaders and the church play an active part in charting the path of our young people.
“We realize we can’t be everywhere, and we also realize the police can’t do everything to keep a community safe,” Boyce noted.
