London (CNN) -- Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was hospitalized in Britain today with a bladder infection and will miss part of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee celebration, Buckingham Palace said.
Philip, who will be 91 on Sunday, was taken to King Edward VII Hospital in London from Windsor Castle "as a precautionary measure after developing a bladder infection, which is being accessed and treated," the palace said in a statement.
The queen's husband will remain hospitalized and under observation "for a few days," the statement said.
Philip will miss tonight's night concert and tomorrow's service of thanksgiving, luncheon and carriage procession marking the 60th anniversary of Elizabeth's coronation. "He is, understandably, disappointed," the palace said.
Paul McCartney addressed fans outside Buckingham Palace after news of Philip's hospitalization broke, wishing the prince a speedy recovery. McCartney is set to close the concert Monday night.
