PARLIAMENTARY secretary in the Ministry of Health, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, says this Government can be proud of the decisions it has made in relation to health and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Sandiford-Garner defended the Government’s record on health on Tuesday night during her tribute to the late Prime Minister David Thompson at The David I Remember presentation at the Democratic Labour Party headquarters on George Street, Belleville, St Michael.

Before an audience that included Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Cabinet ministers and entertainers Red Plastic Bag, Mikey, G-Syndicate, Paula Hinds and Colin Spencer, she pointed to the Government’s rationalization of the Barbados Drug Service, the funding and focus on non-communicable diseases and the banning of smoking in public places as achievements of which the administration should be proud.

Sandiford-Garner said the hospital’s pre-payment plan for private patients had been a huge success, earning the hospital over $200 000 every month.
