Put God in your marriage

Dear Christine,

I HAVE DECIDED to write to you not because I have a problem, but because I want to share some timely advice with readers. I am sometimes very unhappy with the reports I see of failed marriages, and infidelity among couples.

I am a 65-year-old who has been married for the past 40 years. My husband and I have had our disagreements but throughout our years of marriage, we chose to remain faithful to each other and to God.

We were not always well off, but we learnt how to save, sacrifice and respect each other. Very early in our relationship, we decided that we got married for better or for worse, and we committed our marriage to God.

We sought God before our marriage to find out from Him if it was His will for us to be together, and we waited on Him to answer our prayers.

Today, too many young people are giving up on their marriages too quickly.

I just want to say that love, respect, commitment, honesty, faithfulness and a bit of humour and understanding help to make a strong marriage. Add God to these and you can rest assured that He will be with you through thick and thick.
