It’s do or die time in the LIME Pelican Football Challenge.
Do Kick?LG Strike Force have what it takes to kick T.S.?Strikers out of the competition? Or can Tech4Less Scotty’s Combined All Stars shine against Akademiks?
These questions will be answered on Sunday when the quarter-finals get underway at Kensington Oval.
After a pulsating group stage which saw four teams being eliminated, the eight remaining sides know that nothing short of victory will be good enough from here on.
In the opening game at 6 p.m, Zone A winners LG Strike Force, will fancy their chances against a T.S Strikers team who have conceded just as many goals (eight) as they have scored.
LG Strike Force haven’t been much better in front of goal either, having scored nine goals in their five matches, but they have been better defensively, conceding five goals.
They will be boosted by the inclusion of teenaged striker Diquan Adamson, who showed his worth in his opening game, scoring twice, and will no doubt be thirsty to find the back of the nets again.
T.S. Strikers will have to regroup after being hammered 4-1 by Phoenix UFO Toyota Firehouse in their last game, where their key players Rico ‘Sas’ Baptiste and Jamal Chandler were almost non-existent.
The night’s final match at 8 p.m will see one of the pre-tournament favourites in Akademiks take on Combined All Stars.
Akademiks’ offence has faltered since losing the services of Arantees Lawrence to injury, and has only managed five goals in their five matches. Lawrence’s return and partnership with Mario Harte could be the right tonic for Akademiks. Their defence has been impressive however, having let through just three goals.
Harte will once again lead their charge against an All Stars team which will be severely hampered by the unavailability of key player Tristan “Fishy” Parris, who will miss the remainder of the competition with torn ankle ligaments.
The other two quarter-finals will be played on November 18. Indar Weir Travel Centre Barbados Steel Works Top?Bay Settlers will oppose Nu Look 360 Connection at 6 p.m. and Fire House will clash with Broad Street Men’s and Women’s Red Tridents at 8 p.m.
