South Africa became the first side to be ranked No. 1 in all three formats of cricket yesterday.
And Hashim Amla (pictured) became the fastest batsman to reach 3 000 runs in One-Day Internationals.
His career-best 150 off 124 balls paved the way for an 80-run victory over England at the Rose Bowl that ended the home team’s streak of ten successive wins in 50-over matches.
In the process, Amla crossed 3 000 runs in this form of the game in his 57th innings, beating the previous record of 69 by former West Indies captain Vivian (now Sir Viv) Richards.
South Africa’s victory confirmed their status as the No. 1 team in ODIs, a position they also hold in Test matches and Twenty20 Internationals.
