WITH an increase in gun crime resulting in the death of a number of victims, a Government minister is calling for a re-examination of the Bail Act with a view to removing murder from the schedule of offences that are bailable.

Minister of Transport and Works and parliamentary representative of St Philip North Michael Lashley made the suggestion during the launch of the Grassfield/Duncans Neighbourhood Watch in St Philip over the weekend.

It came following remarks by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Eucklyn Thompson, who said a worrying factor in the increase in crime in Barbados was the use of firearms.

Lashley, an attorney at law, said that as a citizen, he also had concerns about the level of crime in Barbados among the young people and reports that some people charged with murder were released on bail.
