Kiron?Neale, a whiz-kid from Trinidad and?Tobago who has been delving deep into the science of global environmental change, is the latest recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship for the Commonwealth Caribbean area.
Neale was announced the 2012 winner at Government House yesterday, joining a list of past global winners, including former United States president Bill Clinton (1968) and former vice chancellor of the University of the West Indies Rex Nettleford (1957).
“It’s an achievement, an honour. I am humbled by the moment. It feels good to bring the award back to Trinidad after some years of drought,” Neale said before an audience that included Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Chief Justice Marston Gibson, also a former Rhodes Scholar.
The 22-year-old from Marabella, San Fernando, said he was looking to pursue the Master of Science degree in environmental change and management focusing on climate change and its repercussions for the Caribbean region. (MK)
