‘Ri-Ri show’ not of BTA

‘Ri-Ri show’ not of BTA Rihanna (FP)

By Tim Slinger | Sun, June 03, 2012 - 12:09 AM

THE BARBADOS TOURISM AUTHORITY (BTA) has categorically denied any involvement in a reportedly planned Rihanna and Jay-Z show to be held in Barbados on August 4.

Chairman Adrian Elcock told the SUNDAY SUN yesterday the BTA would not have engaged the Barbadian international superstar to perform here during Crop Over festivities.

“I know there are some parties trying to agitate for something but the BTA is definitely not involved in any planned Rihanna concert on August 4. It’s a rumour,” he stressed.

His reaction followed several unconfirmed reports about a Rihanna/Jay-Z concert to be held at Kensington Oval during Crop Over.

Instead of EVERYONE SITTING BACK and claiming that they are NOT INVOLVED, would someone or Some CONCERNED DEPARTMENT (Hint: NCF) PLEASE investigate this Alleged RUMOUR, and if it turns out to have any merit, MAKE SURE that any of the needed PERMITS/LICENCES NEEDED are not ISSUED.
NOW!!! if theses PERMITS/LICENCES are Applied for and are in fact ISSUED, PLEASE don't come to anyone CRYING FOUL. They are enough Cultural Organisations in Barbados that can put enough pressure on the concerned Authorities not to issue any permits to ANYONE for ANYTHING EXTERNAL during the CROPOVER FESTIVAL SEASON. and that is not breaking any Barbados/Caricom Rules they are provisions in the relevant LAWS for this.

If that show was to come off it would rake in lots of money and kill off Crop Over in the process!

I fail to believe that your ambassador (she does not represent me! would do such a thing

rumor.... notice my spelling, its american english, many barbadians may say its the wrong spelling, just like any american will say, its ludicrous to hear of two superstars/headliners jay z and ri ri .to put on a concert in a foreign country on such a short notice.. all the logistics, including but not limited to lighting, sound, stage, accomodations, press, publication etc. also the ever important insurance, permits, and licences. nothing is impossible but the probability of such a concert on that date is next to zero, that brings us to why would someone or some entity start such a rumour? what is their motive?cropover is focussed on two months, last year it was introduced, that focus and planning will be a year round effort, attracting superstars like the aforementioned will aid to this effort. if we show rejection to these prospects ,it will lessen our attractiveness to such acts and their fans/followers. its a new day.we must diversify... gone are the days of afternoon teas, if an act of that caliber performed at a different time ,it could boost tourism and when some of those who may travel here to see the show, see what we have to offer, they may well be back for CROP OVER
