FRESH FROM a successful whirlwind tour of Europe, local superstar Rihanna came home for a little rest and relaxation yesterday.
Roving NATION photographer Sandy Pitt was on the spot as Rihanna greeted her mother Monica Fenty with a hug at Grantley Adams International Airport, and then engaged in girlish banter before hopping into the driver’s seat of her Range Rover.
The two then exited the airport around 2:30 p.m.
The 22-year-old pop music star has been the talk of the town over the last two days, since debate in the House of Assembly centred on the land given to her by Government at the upscale Apes Hill Development in St James. (RJ)

I can’t believe that bajans are still so divided when it comes to Rihanna. It is a fact that her fame and reputation have brought a lot of attention and tourist $ to Barbados.
I have lived in Torornto for 35 years and there are so many people who have no idea where we are. This is a fact! But mention Rihanna and they quickly have an idea.
Whether she deserves it or not is not the issue. We know politicians always get their share of by being around a celebrity. The positive from this is that this will be mentioned in in world music circles and we get more publicity.
The land in that area will probably cost more if she builds a home. If I were her, I would take the time to donate it to a worthy cause and maybe even help defray the costs.
Come on, be grateful we finally have an international superstar.

Back to the Riri debate!
It may seem unfair for a person to receive free land right? But what is wrong in rewarding an international star? This recognition makes it international musice newsworthy. It gets Barbados publicity and makes the Tourist Board’s job easier.
We can keep debating, which changes nothing. If you are bitter and/or envious, get over it. Riri won’t be a superstar forever. Neither did our past stars (cricket, music, athletics). We need to appreciate them before they die.
Leave her alone! She is just a young bajan who got lucky on the international music stage.
To you bajans who keep blasting this young woman. Shhhh! Shhhh! That deafing silence is the sound of people especially Rihanna, who cares what you think of her.
And one final thing. An opinion, (mine too) is just like a behind. Everyone has one but some stink more than others!

I am a proud Barbadian living in Germany.
I got the opportunity to see Rihanna live in Germany and I was so proud to see a young beautiful Barbadian woman make a name for herself, and work so hard to stay on top of the music industry.
This is a young woman who not so long ago was a teenager, had a break, took it and and has done well. So my fellow Barbadians, when someone has done that good and place Barbados’  name around the world,  I say Rihanna deserves it.
Readers, we´re a small island and still many people don´t know about Barbados. I live in Europe and I know this for a fact.

I would like to commend to the Goverment for thinking so highly of the nation’s superstar, Rihanna. It’s a good thing when people and our goverment stand behind us, but I think it’s too early in her career to crown her in this manner, if at all. The Goverment should consider other ways to reward her, if she prove worthy at twenty five or older, and let her be a contributor. The Government should remember, they speak for the people, and they should convey the wishes of the people, and not a few indivisuals.

I am a person who truly loved rihanna and though i am not as big a fan as i was of her when she first came out I still love and appreciate her style and talent but come on I am a young lady with two kids trying to leave a moral and legal life to make hem proud and it seems I cant get a good job, which will push back my opportunities to buy land and I think that giving away land to a multi million record selling wealthy artist is kinda unfair to persons like me. No matter if is was the smallest piece that was considered no goo i would still feel its unfair think of what the thousands that land cost could do for the average negro like me. Have you gus wonder why she is buying million dollar homes all over the US and not here we need the forex to! geesh

Wow. I am Jamaican. And i am surprised at how you Bajans are treating one of your own. Look at Jamaica with Bob Marley, and Now USAIN Bolt. What Ri Ri has done for Barbadians, just by being bajan, you can’t pay for. In Jamaica we have a saying, give props to where props are due. And she deserves it.  If it wasn’t for Ri Ri, foreigners would still be asking where in Jamaica is Barbados.

Since Ri Ri hit the scene it has open to flood gates for bajan artists such as Shontelle, Jaicko, Livi Franc, Hal Linton, Vita and even international model/tv host/humanitarian Leah Marville.

Be proud of what you have. Land is but a small price to pay.
