Road Heat The Warrens Roundabout. (FP)

THE CONTROVERSIAL Warrens Roundabout was the source of heated debate in the House of Assembly yesterday, with Government describing it as a positive part of its traffic safety improvement plan and the Opposition calling it a reflection of the current chaos and confusion on the roads.

Speaking during the passage of a $20 million resolution to supplement the Estimates, specifically road network improvement projects, Minister of Public Works and Transport John Boyce said a reduction of “incidents” was now being seen at the Warrens Roundabout.

However, he reminded road users that roundabouts were merely rotary traffic intersections which, like all junctions, were dangerous and should be approached cautiously.

Noting that the roundabout in question was part of the $46 million Warrens Traffic Improvement Project, Boyce said Government was aiming to conclude this and other projects, including Boarded Hall Roundabout, Bowmanston and Clifton Hall in St John; Padmore Village in St Philip; Deighton Griffith School to Aberdeen Corner in Christ Church; and Maycocks to Colleton in St Lucy by the end of the financial year (March 31).

Somebody needs to assure me that this will indeed ease the traffic congestion. The introduction of those lanes in and out of the Hardware store and adjoining complex presents a real death trap.  It seems so unnecessary and a big waste of money.  The one way system aback the Govt unit makes more sense if it is appropriately signed (not just one lil sign at the lil roundabouts). Please, for goodness sake, it would be a good idea to explain it’s usage properly. Educate the people via CBC/GIS at prime time instead of showing that ancient and purposeless six o’clock daily religious service (like bajan opium) called Days of our lives.
