Samba time

Samba time

Thu, August 04, 2011 - 12:00 AM

Minister Of Tourism Richard Sealy may not know any samba steps, but he definitely knows how to “guh down”.

Sealy was in the limelight for a brief spell yesterday when Brazilian samba band Sociedade Rosas De Oura paid a courtesy call at his office.

The 28-member contingent is in Barbados for a two-week visit, which allowed them to take in several Crop Over activities, conduct workshops and perform at various venues.

Here, Minister Sealy taking a “little wine” with the assistance of costumed dancers.

Brazil with resplendent Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo is certainly a recreation and business option that Bajans ought to be exploring. Flights moving daily between Barbados and those cities are needed just as there are flights moving daily between Barbados and US cities. The authorities have to do the necessary work, set and expend budgets to maximize these opportunities for travel and business as a matter of priority.

Bare talk.... If you really want ties with Brazil then why not make Barbados an Associate Nation of the Union of South American Nations bloc........ CARICOM nationals aren't buying Barbadian goods, so Barbados needs to diversify anyways....

@ Albert Barr:
I agree. Maybe Redjet can explore that option but the Govt &/or the business community would have to stimulate relations and investment opportunities between the two so as to increase the feasibility of making it a lucrative travel route. I suppose the Guyana route is their way of getting a foot in the door for the South American market with a view to expanding in the future.
