AN APPARENT SHORTAGE of teachers forced the early closure of school at Alma Parris yesterday.
Children said they were dismissed from school at 12:30 p.m. One St Michael woman said her son was home well before 2 p.m. and he reported that “a lot of teachers” were absent from school.
The SATURDAY SUN visited the Speightstown, St Peter school just before 11 a.m., and the compound was quiet. Only a few students were seen walking around.
Principal Valdez Francis offered no comment on reports that teachers had staged a sick-out or on how the school was being manned in their absence.
