There was a call for agriculture to take a leading economic role and the Barbados Agricultural Society’s CEO James Paul criticized the absence of senior people when the Agrofest awards ceremony was held on Saturday.
Without mentioning names, Paul told the gathering: “I really think that those persons who should be here to honour you should be here. They have no excuse.”
Fifty awards were announced, covering various apects of agriculture and Paul commended the awardees for being people who produce and not only talk.
He said: “You are the people who matter . . . . I feel you are the best around.”
Minister of Agriculture Dr David Estwick and Permanent Secretary Michael King did not attend the ceremony at Divi Southwinds Hotel. (GA)
