There might have been a truckload of humour, but the messages that Barbadians need to treat the elderly better and to be more aware of the HIV/AIDS problem were prominent during an “Over-50s concert” held at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed on Saturday evening.

The concert showcased some of the best talent in gospel, calypso and spouge, with appearances by Mighty Gabby, Red Plastic Bag (RPB), John King, Grynner, Sister Margrita Marshall, Colin Spencer, Brian Bumba Payne, Tony Grazette and Desmond Fowl Weekes.

It also offered a glimpse of the immense talent held by people with disabilities, through the songs of the visually-impaired Juanita Paul and Elviston Maloney.

But under the humour of the skits performed by the National Assistance Board’s (NAB) Drama Group was the serious message that Barbadians have to treat elderly relatives better and stop “dropping them of” [abandoning them] at care institutions. (TY)
