SET C (Yellow) waged a clinical campaign yesterday and will reign as the kings and queens of track and field at Deighton Griffith after successfully defending their title on the schools’ Kingsland, Christ Church ground.

With 1 262 points, Set C widened the gap on Set D (Green), who were as close as 80 points last year. They finished on 1 124 points, after putting in a great challenge and claiming half of the division champions.

Set A (Red) were a distant third on 828 and former powerhouses Set B (Blue) held on to the cellar position with 596 points.

Set C’s Kadeem Brewster claimed the senior victor ludorum for the third successive year, leading the troops with 60 points.

His only victory came in the Under-20 Boys’ long jump, but he placed second in the 100, 200, discus, high jump and javelin and was fourth in the 800 metres.

Set D’s Wendy Sobers was the senior victrix ludorum with 66 points, mainly from the field events.

Housemate Dana Brathwaite won the junior victrix title, amassed 94 points after competing in every single event, with her lone victory yesterday coming in the Under-15 Girls’ 100 metres.

With victories in the Under-15 Boys’ 100 (13.17 hand times); 200 (26.29) and 400 (1:03.68), Set D’s Xavier Morris took the junior victor ludorum title with 66 points. He also won the high jump and was second in the 800 and 1 500 metres.

Set C’s Kentoine Browne stood out on the track. After stepping up to the Under-17 division, he had little challenge in sweeping the 100 (11.75); 200 (25.01) and 400  in 56.40.

He was chased to the line by Set B’s Evirco Inniss in the 100 and housemate Karon Bolden, the division champion, in the other races.

Set A’s Akeem Harris can boast of being the fastest man in school after doing the sprint double in the Under-20 division.

Looking the part in his all-black track gear, Harris beat Brewster to take the 100 metres in 11.70 seconds and did the same in the 200, crossing the line in 24.12 seconds.

Set C’s Dario Grandison, the reigning inter-school 5 000m champion, won the 400m in 58.57 seconds.

The Under-20 Girls’ division is nothing to write home about as Set B’s Rhea Small did the sprint double while Set B’s Khadijah Alleyne won the 400m.

In the Under-17 Girls’ division, Set C’s Danielle Currency won the 100 and 200 metres in 13.95 and 29.36 seconds, respectively, from Set D’s Saydia Weekes, who won the 400m in 67.21.

After finishing second to Brathwaite (14.61) in the Under-15 Girls’ 100m, housemate Tia Inniss won the 200 and 400 in 34.12 and 1:18.70, respectively.

Among the first formers, look out for the versatile Akeba Pollard, Tyla Morris and Rushawn Jordan of Set A as well as Set C’s Jalani Blenman.
