Sex, porn and videotapes

Sex, porn and videotapes READING and living by the Scriptures have become integral parts of the new lifestyle of former porn addict Rev, Wasim Worrell. (Cheryl Harewood)

ADDICTED TO pornography from the age of ten; an “instigator” of seven abortions; and a man with no genuine love for women.

That was Wasim Worrell before his conversion to Christianity five years ago.

The 37-year-old has had a varied life but having experienced God’s love he made a conscious decision to serve Him and is today a changed man.

Now he preaches a message of hope to all who would listen. “It does not matter what you have done,” he says. “You might have had an abortion, you might have been a thief, an obeah man, visited an obeah man, gotten entangled in pornography, addicted to sex, lived an immoral life or been a criminal. God can change you for where sin abounds, grace much more abounds.”

Worrell, of Husbands, St James, and an associate pastor with Saving The Lost At Any Cost ministry at the Garrison, St Michael, decided to share his experiences in the hope that his story will help others.

Growing up in rural St Andrew, he was lured into pornography at the age of ten. This love for porn continued into his adult life, growing from one level to the next, as he watched movies displaying acts of bestiality, homosexuality and the like.

“It is common for people to leave children unsupervised for long hours and back then we were,” he admitted. “There were six of us boys who had unlimited access to pornographic videos. It was possible at that age for us to go to the video stores and rent these tapes without any questions being asked. We would go from house to house to watch these videos when our parents were out.

“I became so addicted I would watch pornography for up to eight hours. Over the years I graduated from [soft] porn to the more disgusting porn depicting violence and sadism. The thing is, a lot of people are into porn but do not understand how dangerous it is.”

Worrell told the SUNDAY SUN that over time his exposure to sadistic sexual acts resulted in his becoming cold in his relationships with women.

“Up until I got saved in 2007, I had no love or empathy for women I claimed to love,” he confessed.

Wickedness

His appetite for sexual exploits and “blue movies” led him and some of his buddies to the “red light” districts of Amsterdam.

“Even then, though a sinner, I was appalled at the depths of wickedness which were part of the porn lifestyle, where emphasis was on bestiality. We visited sex houses to watch live sex with people performing all kinds of immoral acts with each other.

“Watching this kind of sex had nothing to do with love. I loved women only from the surface. When they got pregnant for me I became cold towards them and always insisted they had an abortion. I ordered as many as seven abortions,” he admitted.

After his conversion Worrell said he “saw” scenes of these innocent children being slaughtered.

“When I got saved I told God I was saddened about this aspect of my life, especially when I thought of how He gave His only son to die on the Cross for our sins. It was only after I understood the richness of God’s love I was able to understand Christ died for the murderer, the rapist, the homosexual and that He wants those who believe they have done the worst things in life to come to know Him. He is still willing to save the vilest of sinners,” he remarked.

His views on abortion changed instantly one day when he said God gave him a vision of the seven lives which were aborted.

“I had this vision of Heaven, where I was escorted before the Throne of God to give God an account of everything I had done in my life,” he said. “As I was being escorted I knew within my spirit that the babies I had aborted had gone to be with the Lord. I could see them at the side

dressed in beautiful white dresses with golden leaves in their hair and draped in golden sashes. I was soon left alone with God.”

Worrell continued: “As He opened The Book Of Life, He told me everything I had ever done as a child. He even told me of the ways He blessed and protected me from diseases and death. He spoke about the times He went after me when I had stopped serving Him. I was humbled, but also terrified, not knowing if He would say, ‘Depart from me, I know you not’, or ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant’.

“In the end He said, ‘. . . But you are my son’.”

Worrell’s initial turnaround came in 2006 when he was paralysed briefly following minor surgery. In his agony, he told God: “If you are real, heal me.”

Worrell said he was mocked by the Devil in his hospital bed and he felt degraded and plagued by the thought he might never walk again.

He said he came to the “full realisation” that Satan hated him. Yet, even after his healing, he returned to his womanizing lifestyle.

“Some time later, God reminded me that even though He’d healed me I still was not serving Him,” Worrell told the SUNDAY SUN.

Worrell’s change for the better came after his sister spoke to him. He subsequently received a telephone call from Prophetess Marguerite Breedy-Haynes, head of Saving The Lost At Any Cost.

“As a result, I made a conscious decision at the end of 2007 to try Jesus. My life turned around completely,” added Worrell, who would later pen these lines of a song: “I was the worst son, now I am God’s son. He called me to His presence before time on earth began.”

A psychiatric nurse by profession, Worrell and his wife of two years are now partnering with their church to open a home for the mentally challenged.

Today, this father of two is singing the praises of God whom he believed transformed his life so he could help others.
