Short’s side

It was the perfect getaway at the perfect time and there is no scandal, says American actor Columbus Short, who has been in Barbados for the past few days.
The actor has been receiving negative press in his homeland for being in the country at parties and at Crop Over activities, having a good time while American law enforcement authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest over a domestic matter.
Short said yesterday he was prepared to face the music when he returns to the United States today.
He contrasted this with the warm reception he received from all segments of the Barbadian community, noting he had been invited into homes by people he had never met before and had eaten without fear at the tables of many. Not only is he now hooked on the local culture, but rice and peas, macaroni pie and oxtail stew as well.
The actor, known for his recent role as “Harrison” in the ABC TV series Scandal, said he was between a rock and hard place when he made the decision to come to Barbados.
“I have heard I came to Barbados to evade arrest . . . more crazy stuff and people are eating it up. It makes me look like public enemy No. 1 . . . . Even if I went to jail when I went back home I would not have regretted my decision to come here . . . . I would take going to jail for a night to be here this whole trip.”
Speaking exclusively to the MIDWEEK NATION, Short said he wanted to clear the air on a number of things but would not divulge certain information because of the court matter.
