Simmons: Say sorry

Just say sorry!
Alexandra School chairman Keith Simmons feels principal Jeff Broomes should apologise to the entire teaching staff at the school, for having called out a senior teacher during the school’s speech day celebrations last December.
Simmons made the suggestion today as his second day of testimony before a Commission of Inquiry was winding down at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
The fact that Jones revealed Head of the Science Department, senior teacher Amaida Greaves had not taught a class for almost entire term during the speech day has been a talking point from the attorneys' table since the Inquiry started last week.
“It was very unfortunate Mr Broomes made the comments on speech day. The entire staff was embarrassed. It was not just the teacher who was criticized. I feel it was all the teachers. That was a bad thing to do. I feel he should be big enough to apologise for that.”
Simmons noted Broomes’ action was in bad taste since questions should have been asked of the senior teacher and the Board informed before the statements were made.
“She must have been a good teacher in the past. She was a head of department,” the chairman added.
