Sinckler lauds NHC bill

Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler has lauded the introduction of the National Housing Corporation (Transfer of Terrace Units) Bill 2012 as it was debated in the House of Assembly.
In an impassioned speech, he hailed the legislation as bringing Barbados one step closer to creating a new property-owning class.
He said he himself had grown up in a poor family and his constituency of St Michael North West comprised residents of four NHC estates –  Rosemont, Ferniehurst, Golden Acre and Deacons Farm – who would benefit from the legislation that provided for the transfer of units by the corporation to tenants who had lived in and/or paid for them for 20 years.
The legislation also covers existing extensions which had previously breached Town and Country Planning regulations.
