Head of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) Sir Roy Trotman today expressed his concern and annoyance with the length of time it is taking the Employment Rights Tribunal (ERT) to deal with the wrongful dismissal case against the National Conservation Commission (NCC).
Several weeks have passed since the case went before the tribunal challenging the move to dismiss nearly 200 NCC workers, and today, Sir Roy complained that the ERT had not gotten around to “any of its work” and the work load was getting heavier.
He told reporters he was unhappy to hear that one of the reasons advanced for the latest delay in processing the case was that some of the tribunal membership were on holiday.
Sir Roy also said he hoped the relatively new body would sort out its regulations and be prepared to discuss them with the union’s lawyers to avoid making a series of mistakes. (TY)
