Labour leader Sir Roy Trotman is warning of a deterioration in labour and social relations on the island as the economic crisis takes further hold of the country.
Sir Roy, general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) and former head of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations said the situation would degenerate rapidly if there were mass layoffs in the country.
“Before we get to the industrial relations climate, the social climate would deteriorate so badly that I don’t think we would be able to control those social interface relationships which we now have,” he said earlier today during a Press conference at the union’s Solidarity House, St Michael headquarters.
