Eleven records fell as Skeete House ended a 16-year drought to win the Foundation School Inter-House Track and Field Championships for the first time since 1996.

Yesterday at the National Stadium during the Powerade-sponsored event, Skeete won the boys’ division (513) and were second overall among the girls to take first place with 943.5 points.

Talma were a distant second with 729 points, badly missing the valuable contribution from an injured Aisha Smith.

Defending champions Lynch, very strong in the girls’ section which they won with 442 points, were third overall with 683 points after losing Shaquille Alleyne and Nikolai Gall to Combermere, while Oyinpreye (Pierre) Ekiyor is also injured and didn’t compete.

Wellington were fourth with 674.5 points and Inniss brought up the rear with 631, hard-hit by the loss of John Haynes, who is now at The Lodge School.

CARIFTA athlete Tia-Adana Belle of Lynch featured in three of the records which fell.

Individually, she cleared 1.55 metres to set a new mark in the Under-17 Girls’ high jump.

In the 400 metres, her pet event, Belle’s long strides raced to a new record of 59.04 seconds, down from 61.08. She also anchored the Under-20 Girls’ 4x100 metres relay team to a record 52.89 after leading the Under-17 team to victory.

She was the first to cross the line in the 4x400 metres relay team and also counted wins in the 100 (12.82) and 200 metres (25.58).

Junior victrix ludorum Krista Maloney of Skeete set a new record of 62.57 in the Under-15 Girls’ 400 metres. She also won the 800, 1 500 and 3 000 metres; was second in the discus and javelin; third in the shot put; fourth in the high jump and seventh in the long jump for her 71 points.

Inniss’ Hannah Connell clocked 7:10.12 in the Under-13 Girls’ 1 500m and Jermaine Alleyne of Skeete also broke the boys’ record with 6:01.23.

Wellington’s Joshua Hunte broke the 5 000-metres record with 17:08.11 and teammate Kofi McCollin now holds the new mark of 2:22.43 in the Under-15 Boys’ 800 metres.

In the field, Dyna Francis of Talma won the Under-17 Girls’ discus with a record 28.63 metres and Talma’s Nailah Cave put her name in the books with 8.94 metres in the Under-15 Girls’ shot put.

The final record went to Talma with 47.24 seconds in the Under-17 Boys’ 4x100 metres relay.

Lynch’s Chelsi Corbin took the senior victrix ludorum title with 92 points after competing in almost all of the events. She was also part of the record-breaking 4x100 metres relay team with Belle and had victories in the 800, 1 500 and 3 000 metres.

Corbin was second in the 100 (13.23), 200 (26.95), 400 (62.61), long and high jumps, and third in the triple jump and discus.

Skeete’s Nicholas Jones won the Under-17 Boys’ long jump; was second in the high jump, triple jump, 800m, 1 500m and 400m; was third in the javelin and 100m and fourth in the 200m for 67 points and the senior victor ludorum title.

Christopher Taitt of Wellington was the junior victor ludorum with wins in the high jump and shot put, second place in the 100m and 400m; third in the discus; fourth in the 200m and seventh in the javelin.

There is a lot of work to be done in the sprints before Inter-School Sports.

Nicholas Gill of Wellington was the fastest boy with 11.52 seconds, just edging Shomari Ishmael (11.57) of Skeete.

Skeete’s Deshon Trent did the treble in the Under-15 division, winning the 100m (11.99), 200m (24.27) and 400m (56.53).

The tall Kristian Blades of Inniss took the Under-17 Boys’ 200m (23.45) and 400m (52.69), with Wellington’s Davian Hawkesworth winning the 100 in 11.66 seconds.
