Skills boost for City folk

More young people from the Emmerton community and its surrounding areas are now equipped with the basic skills to get their business in barbering and aesthetics up and running.
Saturday, when the Community Development Department (CDD) held the Emmerton Fun & Empowerment Fair at the Emmerton Community Centre, Chief Community Development Officer Sandra Greenidge said the programmes were really stimulating participants to help themselves.
She explained that what the CDD provides was the base and then folks could take a number of avenues and even do formal training at one of the tertiary level institutions, or set up their business.
“So while they are in training, some are exploring options for themselves, and because of the current situation, the scope for employment really is limited – unless there is self-employment – and this is what we encourage them to do,” Greenidge said.
