THE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS sector has channelled about $1 billion into the Treasury in recent years and is poised for growth despite Barbados’ economic challenges.
Barbados International Business Association (BIBA) and Central Bank officials also said plans were being implemented to ensure much of the sector’s future sustenance came from the large, but generally untapped, Latin America market.
This was outlined yesterday during the official launch of International Business Week 2014 at the Central Bank, Tom Adams Financial Centre, The City.
BIBA president Connie Smith acknowledged the overall economic challenges Barbados faced and pointed to continued attempts to “bash” its reputation as a leading international financial centre.
